Writing in Businessweek Mr Cook wrote: 'Let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.
'Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day.
'It’s made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life.'
He added: 'If hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.'

I take no offence with Mr. Cook being gay, it is perfectly natural, but to describe his condition as being 'one of the greatest gifts God has given me' is ridiculous. Would it also be a gift of God to be born with some congenital health problem; heart disease, spina bifida or Down's Syndrome. Is it in God's gift to be born into penury, waking up not knowing if you are to eat that day? Is it a gift of God to be born in some war-torn country with your parents dead from bullet wounds lying next to you? No, Mr. Cook, it is not in God's gift because He or She is a fiction, a manifestation of your superstition.
Your condition, according to my theory, is due, according to a caprice of nature, to a female character from either of your parent's ancestral past being uploaded to your male embryonic brain. This character nurtured in the twentieth century gave rise to your business acumen, success and eventually to your superabundance of riches. That you are now a multimillionaire is what truly makes you one of a minority in a world full to the brim of those without.
