God & Sport

Have you noticed how many footballers, these days, make religious gestures, before, during and after matches. The gestures range from crossing themselves to almost full prostration on the ground, often kissing the sward. After scoring goals, players raise their head with palms uplifted as if in gratitude. Are they seeking preferment from a third party? What exactly is it that they hope to achieve by this overt exhibition of supplication. Whatever it is (& including spitting) should be left behind in the dressing room.
I suggest that this is unacceptable behaviour; religious observance should play no part in any sporting contest. Over to you, FA.
